Introduction to Pronouncing the French Alphabet
French pronunciation can be one of the more difficult aspects of learning French, especially for English speakers, but with time and practice, it is definitely possible to develop a good French accent. It important to do so eventually. In French, pronunciation is a very big deal. Phonetics, the system and study of sounds uttered in speaking a language, in short, the way a language is pronounced, is taught in every language school serving foreigners. Students are drilled in opening their mouth, pursing their lips, hitting the roof of their mouth precisely with their tongue and other techniques involved in speaking French correctly. Consonants and Vowels The French alphabet has the same 26 letters as the English alphabet does, but of course, most of the letters are pronounced differently in the two languages. In addition, French has five accents: four for vowels and one for a consonant, which English, of course, does not have. Vowels are the most problematic for non-native speakers, especially speakers of Germanic languages like English and German, who do not use the muscles in their face and mouth as much as the French. Remember that there is only so much you can do to improve your pronunciation on your own. At some point, you will almost certainly need to take a class, go to France or hire a private tutor. Online pronunciation lessons like these can never take the place of interaction with native or fluent speakers, but at least they can help you get started or supplement what youve already learned. Bilbo Baggins, An Unlikely Hero - 1466 Words
Bilbo Baggins, An Unlikely Hero â€Å"Heroes are made by the path they choose, not the powers they are graced with†(Ashton, 92). Specific characteristics come to mind when one envisions are hero, such as extraordinary strength and great courage. Heroes most commonly receive recognition for notable talents and remembered for their astonishing deeds and accomplishments. For example, Superman possesses superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to fly, qualities most frequently associated with heroes. However, not all heroes fit this model. Just a small hobbit from The Shire, Bilbo Baggins does not possess any great strengths or abilities, and many would view Bilbo as the antithesis to Superman. In J.R.R Tolkiens, The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins portrays an unlikely hero due to his small size and stout appearance, his cowardly personality, and his tendency to appear as an onus to the group. However, through his actions of bravery, Bilbo demonstrates that anyone, no matter what size or shape, can perform heroic deeds. A hero possesses the mentality of a person of great courage and ability. Most associate heroes with extraordinary physical strength and special talents and abilities, such as Anglo-Saxon hero, Beowulf. The Hobbit, depicts a well known hobbit from The Shire, Bilbo Baggins. In this essay I will give 3 good reasons why one shouldnot waste time watching this film. The 3 reasons are the music, special effects,and the bad setting/props. First of all the music in the Lord of the Flies movie does not match the scenesto the movie. My first example is the choir song, Jacks choir always sings. Iwould say it was not suitable for the choir. The song kept repeating, andrepeating, I really got irritated hearing it over and over again. My secondexample is when the boys were hunting for the beast. The music was too slow. It didnt match mood of the boys when they were hunting. The music showed as ifthe boys are going to a party. Secondly, The special effects in the movie was not done properly for the film. My first example is the editing of the movie, explains they did not edit themovie carefully. When a scene was cut you could focus on a different picture,then go back to what happened. My second example is that the movie was blackand white. Since their was a lot of special effect in the film the movie shouldhave been coloured. The special effects would have looked neater since a lot ofkilling was shot. If the movie was coloured the audience would focus on thescreen often, rather than seeing a black and white screen. The settings and the props were not prepared well. My first example is that theboys shirts, were clean everyday. Their clothes should be black and grey,because of the dirt and all the smoke from the fire. For example Simons shirtwas a clean as white, when Simon was watching the other boys spill blood out ofthe pig. The island was to big, as the book describes it. There was no platform,and scar as described in the book. In conclusion, you should watch a coloured version of The Lord of the Flies. Iwould suggest that the book is also great to read. Thats why Im saying thatthis movie is not worth watching because the 3 good reasons I gave explains why. English
